March Imports: 2 Week Open Art Auction

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 5, 2013, 8:30 AM

March 2013 Imports: 2 Week Open Art Auction

Design 8 has been reopened for 2 weeks.

- This auction is open to all members
- If applying for the Western Isles, characters may only be members / descendants of Glenmore, Oakfern or Windborne
- Gender, type, personality etc. are up to you
- If you do not want your design please let me know so I can open it for public adoption
- Any fawns who have not been claimed (drawn and registered with the group) within two months stand the risk of being resold to another player
- Send all bids in a note to the group. Bids in comments will be IGNORED.

How I will be judging:
A good character and good research is weighted as much as a good artwork. Each can win over the other or tip the scales, and a bid will suffer if one is neglected. If you have plans for your design be sure to include them, every detail can mean the difference between winning and going home empty handed.

Bids should include the following information at a minimum:
    Name:
    Gender:
    Age:
    Height:
Type: (Body type, light to heavy)
Use: (If you intend to use the Fawnling for the Western Isles, this is where you say so)

It'd help people that didn't win(for future auctions), to tell them what they have done wrong, especially sense some people work hard completely only to lose. This would also help improve the artist, don't you think?
If they keep losing, they'll be steered away and put down because they don't think they'll ever win.

P.S. Sorry I'm being nosy/etc, just want to help ^^;

In every auction we have on average at least 2-3 bids on every design, often more. That's at least 30 bids every two weeks. We would never sleep if we offered commentary on all of them, or even any of them - we provide people with resources to succeed in the form of journals, guides, links to previous winning bids. The information you need to produce a winning bid is all there, part of the auction process is researching these things, and its not for staff to spoon feed everyone. Self critiscism is an important skill, instead of demanding the staff tell you what was wrong with a bid (in many cases a bid mightn't even have something 'wrong', it just wasn't better than the winning bid), perhaps taking a look at the winning bid and asking what they did differently, or what sets it apart is a better start.

Hn.

No one's demanding the group do anything, for one, darling. It's called a suggestion.
"Better then the winning bid"? That would be debatable. Some others I thought, by looking at every inch of detail plus what was put as information, deserved to win where as the winner didn't.

Yes self criticism is an important skill but not everyone has that ability, so they need people to do the criticizing for them. Just handing them links isn't going to completely help, they need more information, someone's complete perspective on the whole thing.

If they looked at the winning bid then at the one's that had been against it, but found the others better and would have won, will not help.

I am not trying to step on anyone's toes or demand anything, just putting my perspective unless that is wrong.

No, but you also have to understand our time constraints; there is simply no time to be going critiquing every bid. Also, every bid wins for a reason; a bid with less detail but no mistakes will win over a more detailed bid with mistakes that are clearly stated in journals which seems to be the problem of many. We have provided critique on what makes a good bid in previous journals, which is a lot more positive than going "This this and this are wrong".

I understand about the whole time constraints and the fact everyone has a life outside the internet. I'm not trying to sound bratty or anything, just trying to get my curiosity done and over with.

Please be mindful that a bid may look better than the winner, however they may already have reached their fawnling limit or may have ignored a few of the rules.
When it comes to the bids we take into account every detail. For example if we had two bids, both were perfect except one had purple eyes and the other brown. The bid with purple eyes would lose because fawnlings do not have purple eyes.

Little things like that add up in bids. It would be difficult for us as staff to go through each bid and compare them to the winner.

We have a lot of work to do with the group as well as a life outside the internet.

We don't mean to sound snippy or short but we do lose a little patience at time with our busy schedules.

Of course, everyone has a life outside the internet.
And yes I'm aware about the whole, one little mistake cost it greatly in an auction.
I was actually talking about what if the bidder, didn't reach the limit(or didn't have one at all) and tried following the rules to a perfect T? And made sure to use the correct colors(especially digital because you can use a dropper). Would the story/information effect that as well? Some people are pretty bad at stories, so they try putting tons of energy into that as well.

Sorry trying to cover every angel.

We do take story and information into account, but also understand that not everyone is like King or Tolkien. The idea of the story and information (correct height/herd/birthing/realistic expectations) are all taken into account.
